For Which It Stands

Great Minds From Our Past

Just Another Crazy Conservative

I received an e-mail from a friend which contained some quotes from one of our democratic for fathers, Thomas Jefferson.  I want to share some of those quotes because you can see the genius in this man’s thinking. Which most of us can relate to today.  You can almost call Jefferson a prophet of things to come, however that’s not the case here. You see he had lived and experienced these things in Europe and is speaking from his experience and knowledge of history. After all he was our 3rd President and the principal author of The Declaration of Independence.  He was a philosopher of politics and new many intellectual leaders of Britain and France.

Thomas Jefferson (April 13, 1743 July 4, 1826)

The 1st quote that stands out concerning recent political events is “The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those are willing to work and give to those who would not.” Also “To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.”  I was shocked because many people are still concerned and angry about the so called “redistribution of funds” our upcoming administration has talked about.  Not about higher taxes but about taking that money and giving it to others. They did not earn it! A two year old child’s thought process can figure that out.  People wake up!

The 2nd quote is when Jefferson says “I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.” Is this all starting to sound familiar?  Our leaders are shelling out money faster than a broken slot machine to these failed businesses.  The problem is it’s the tax dollars we have paid to the government. If I wanted to give more money to banks and auto dealers etc,  I would have started a special fund like in Church. Our society is based on entrepreneurial ideas. People who have the smarts and creativity to make new and greater items and ideas are what this country is about. Not keeping the same businesses which have failed over and over again. This is like putting out a fire with gasoline. Give that money to the innovators.
The 3rd quote here is along the lines of conservative thinking of wanting less and smaller government. Jefferson says “My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.” From recent events and we can see this is starting to become a reality, not excluding President Bush. He has been going right along with many bailouts, the democrats with Fannie May and Freddie Mac, Welfare and Medicare the list is to large. Give me a break even Acorn receives our tax dollars!  Museums for Yoyo’s, teapots and environmentally friendly dog biscuits, no joke, paid for by our tax dollars.  No need to worry the federal government has upped the 2009 budget from 2.9 trillion dollars in 2008 to 3.1 trillion for 2009.

Finally the scariest quote so far is when Jefferson said. “I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.” Let that sink in. We have millions of homes being foreclosed, purchased by those who did not have the means to pay for them, all for the sake of it being fair for everyone to own a home. Regulations and standards were lowered because our politicians demanded it of the banking and lending institutions.  They did not do this on their own!

It is as if history has been forgotten and we have a bunch of corrupt politicians just passing the day. This isn’t some pearl of wisdom that has been hidden away for a rainy day! Where have those people been who have been elected to watch out for our best interests? We need to put an end to this politics as usual and get some people in office that actually have a sense of responsibility, both locally and in Washington,  to those who placed them in this position of power.
